BUTTERFLY SLIDES INTO THE FLAME | EVAN SPROAT + KIYOSHI WHITLEY @ DYNAMO ARTS ASSOCIATION

Number 3 Gallery presents an evening of new, respective performance pieces by Evan Sproat and Kiyoshi Whitley. Toggling between absurdity and vulnerability, both artists consider the ways in which the body interacts with and is shaped by social and architecture structures.

Through his depiction and activation within constructed environments, Sproat produces performative works based on his circumstantial perspective. His body, sexuality, objects, and play become devices used to destabilize and challenge systems of thinking, while proposing new understandings of the world in association to oneself.

Whitley's performances construct incomplete landscapes, punctuated with questions about architecture and being. He questions expectations imposed by his predetermined surroundings through impulse and recovery while using time and movement as a means to distance the body from its prescribed social context.
